Innovation Tour: The Bus Project
We're Oregon's next generation, doing democracy right. We're building a great future and empowering great people to lead it. We're grassroots, nonpartisan and all about organizing Oregonians, face-to-face. We give people their first taste of delicious democracy, develop new leaders and use person-to-person politics to move Oregon not left or right, but forward.

During this Innovation tour you'll meet our PolitiCorps Fellows who come from every state in the nation to learn new ways to think about the world and make a real difference through voter registration, education and community organizing. Learn about their mobilization efforts during a critical election year and discuss civic questions facing our communities, including:
  • Why is it important for emerging leaders to engage in democracy?
  • What role do nonprofits play in facilitating civic engagement in their communities?
  • How can we promote better public discourse about the issues we're working to address?

Note: This session is off-site and requires pre-registration. The purpose of the Innovation Tours are to take participants on a site visit to immerse them in the community and engage with local nonprofits.  All Summit attendees will participate in the opening keynote and lunch presentation(s).  Innovation Tours are scheduled to take place during the morning and afternoon breakouts or after the conference ends.

During this Innovation Tour you will get to meet members of the Wayfinding community, including faculty, crew, students, and Luminaries and see our campus in N. Portland which is currently being prepared for the arrival for our inaugural cohort of students in late August. To learn more about us and see what we have been up to recently, please visit www.wayfindingacademy.com/news. We highly recommend watching the video of “Commencement Day”.

Innovation Tour: First Stop Portland
This study tour will provide an informal tour of the City’s most iconic new neighborhood and ‘Innovative Quadrant,’ the South Waterfront. This new neighborhood offers a rich blend of NPO leadership in everything from affordable housing efforts, to environmental protections, to parks management, to managing aging-in-place facilities. Sustainable infrastructure features such as transit-oriented development, the new Tilikum Crossing Bridge, green streets and green infrastructure is shaping the livability and quality of life in the South Waterfront Innovation Quadrant.

The tour – via streetcar and aerial tram – highlights many of the district’s innovative concepts: landscape design, environmental restoration and green infrastructure as part of TOD; how developers and local agencies are responding to the current economic recession; and transit’s role in the district’s eventual success. The recent commitment of $1 billion for med-tech infrastructure investments will shape this district for decades to come.
